CRIME writer Ian Rankin has unveiled plans to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Inspector John Rebus in the detective’s home city of Edinburgh.

RebusFest, launched by Rankin at Waterstone’s bookshop in Princes Street yesterday, will be a festival of literature, music, art and film between June 30 and July 2.

Rankin, who gave Rebus his debut in 1987, will host a Q&A at the Assembly Room with police officers in which he will ask them about crime-solving techniques. There is also a concert at the Queen’s Hall and an exhibition at the Old Town Writers' Museum.
