An investigation has been launched following the rape of a woman in Glasgow city centre. 

The incident happened between 4am and 4.30am in the early hours of Thursday morning at Renfrew Street, near Charing Cross, Glasgow and involved a 36-year-old woman. 

Officers say inquiries relating to the sexual assault are at an early stage.

Officers are currently conducting enquiries at the scene. 

A Police spokesperson said: "Police are investigsting a report of a serious sexual assault on a 36-year-old woman."

"The incident took place at some point between the hours of 4am and 4.30am early on Thursday morning at the top of Renfrew Street next to Charing Cross."

"Enquiries are at an early stage to establish exact circumstances."
