POLICE have recovered the body of a man from a river in Irvine.

Formal identification is yet to take place but it is believed to be that of Alan Galbraith who vanished five weeks ago.

The 58-year-old has been missing from Kilmarnock, Ayrshire since Sunday February 5. He left his friend’s house in the town’s Dundonald Road at around 2am after spending the evening with his wife and friends.

Police say his body was pulled from the River Irvine, near Dreghorn Road, Irvine at around 2.20pm yesterday.

His death is not being treated as suspicious.

A police spokesman said: "Although formal identification has still to take place, it is believed to be 58-year-old Alan Galbraith who has been missing from Kilmarnock since Sunday February 5. His family has been informed.

“A post-mortem examination will be held to establish the exact cause of death, however it is not being treated as suspicious.”

Police said a report will be forwarded to the procurator fiscal.
