Jeremy Corbyn has been pictured on Byres Road in the west end of Glasgow as he campaigns against SNP cuts.

The Glasgow branch of the Scottish Labour Party, Put Glasgow First, was among the first to welcome its party’s leader.

In a tweet, the group said: “Great to be joined by @jeremycorbyn at our street stall on Byers [sic] Road, campaigning against £377 million of cuts to Glasgow by the SNP!”

Mr Corbyn himself also tweeted that it was “great” to be back in “the wonderful city of Glasgow.”

He is currently campaigning with Anas Sarwar and Frank McAveety.

Mr Sarwar said he was “delighted” to welcome the Labour leader to the city, adding: “Exposing SNP cuts to our great city. We are up for the fight in May!”

Mr McAveety said: “Two governments, two budgets, but none of them putting Glasgow first.

“We deserve fairer budgets.”

Mr Corbyn will be joining Shadow Chancellor, John McDonnell, at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall to take part in a conference entitled ‘The Future of the Scottish Economy’.

The leader’s appearance in the city has received a lukewarm welcome on social media.

The conference is part of a series of public events convened by Mr McDonnell to broaden the debate around economics in Britain.

A range of experts will present their views at a number of events across the country, with questions taken from members of the public.

Also present at the city centre event will be Scottish Labour Party leader Kezia Dugdale, Ann Pettifor, and Professor Andy Cumbers.
