A mechanic remains in hospital after he was reportedly crushed by an ambulance he was working on.

The man is being treated in Ninewells Hospital after the incident at a depot in West School Road, Dundee, last Friday.

The Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) said an investigation is being carried out to find out exactly what happened.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has been informed and are said to be liaising with police.

An SAS spokesman said: "We are aware of an incident involving a member of staff in Dundee on Friday.

"HSE has been made aware of the incident and an investigation into the circumstances is ongoing.

"At this stage we cannot comment any further on the cause of the incident.

"In the meantime, we are in close contact with the family of our staff member, who remains in hospital, and are offering support to local staff."

Police were called to the scene at about 3.30pm on Friday.

A force spokeswoman said: "A man was seriously injured in an incident within the grounds of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

"He has been taken to Ninewells Hospital for treatment. The Health and Safety Executive has been informed and police enquiries are ongoing."
