Police are appealing for information after a baby Jesus doll was taken from a nativity display outside a church in Perth.

The life-sized doll was stolen from outside St John's Kirk last night.

The theft was reported to officers at around 11.30pm.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said three young boys were spotted acting suspiciously in the area at the time and were last seen near St John Street.

The trio were wearing black clothing and two of the boys were carrying rucksacks.

The theft is the second of its kind to happen in the last two years.

Perthshire North MSP John Swinney said: "This is a very sad piece of news and I hope those responsible will realise the disappointment they have caused and return the figure immediately.

"Christmas is no time for the lack of respect that has been shown here. Anybody with information about this theft should report it to the police."

Anyone with information about the theft should contact Police Scotland on 101. Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
