The brand new sugar free fizzy drink, IRN-BRU XTRA, is the first permanent new product in the IRN-BRU line in 35 years.

The product has been in the making for over a year, and claims to provide the IRN-BRU taste that many Scots love, but without any of the sugar.

It's only the third permanent variant to be added to the range, and will be available on Scotland’s shelves next month.

The addition to the famous fizzy drinks range comes after the introduction of a sugar tax, announced in George Osborne's budget in March.

The Cumbernauld-based firm said it expects "at least two thirds of our portfolio will be lower or no sugar" by the time the levy is introduced in April 2018.

Adrian Troy, AG Barr Head of Marketing said: “It’s clear that the market is changing and consumers want more choice.

"With the IRN-BRU secret recipe at its core, it delivers extra taste and no sugar.

"We’re confident it will be just the tonic for those that are keen to try something new and enjoy the bold IRN-BRU taste they love."
