POLICE are dealing with an "ongoing incident" in the East End of Glasgow amid claims that a man is holding a woman and children hostage.
Armed police, ambulances and fire appliances are at the scene in Old Shettleston Road where it is believed that a man is threatening a woman, believed to be his wife or girlfriend, and two children at knifepoint in a flat on the street.
There are unconfirmed reports that he has doused himself and the flat in petrol and threatened to set himself alight.
The disturbance was reported to the police at 4.30pm on Thursday.
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "We are dealing with an ongoing incident. Police are on the scene."
Residents have taken to social media to describe the situation, saying that the whole area around Old Shettleston Road and Wheatley Gardens has been "cordoned off".
