Donald Trump has reportedly been nominated for the Noble Peace prize.
The Independent has reported that the US presidential hopeful has been named on a list of nominees for the prize alongside Pope Francis and an Isis rape survivor.
Kristian Berg Harpviken, Nobel watcher and director of Oslo's Peace Research Institute, told the paper that an anonymous politician had nominated Mr Trump for “his vigorous peace through strength ideology”.
Mr Harpviken also told Reuters that NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden has also been tipped for an award.
Thousands of people are eligible to submit nominations for the Peace Prize. Around 200 nominations are received each year.
Previous nominees include Adolf Hitler and Josef Stalin.
Mr Trump has came under fire during his presidential campaign after calling for all Muslims to be banned from America.
Republican rival Jed Bush described Trump as 'unhinged' following the comments and claimed his plans were 'not serious'.
In December, the UK Government debated a petition calling for Mr Trump, who was stripped of his honourary degree from Robert Gordon University in December, to be banned from the UK.
Former First Minister Alex Salmond also engaged in a war of words with Mr Trump, calling for the US businessman to withdraw his involvement in Turnberry.
Social media users took to Twitter to express their shock at Mr Trump's nomination, with many assuming it 'must be a joke'.
Donald Trump is nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. This is it. The world is ending.

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
