A pro-rape blogger staging an event in Glasgow has received more threats from city residents than 'anywhere else combined', he claims.

RooshV also suggested the city was a "convict resettlement zone" on social media.

The pro-rape pick-up artist, whose real name is Daryush Valizadeh, is planning to hold a meeting in the city on Saturday, along with another in Edinburgh.

The event sparked outrage from thousands of city residents who have now staged a counter event at the same location - George Square.

Speaking about threats on Twitter, Roosh V, wrote: "I've received more threats from Glasgow than anywhere else combined. Is it some kind of convict resettlement zone?"

It comes after police tried to reassure the public that their response would be "proportionate, appropriate and will be determined by the circumstances of any incident or event."

A spokesman said: "Police Scotland is aware of the proposed pick up artist events in Glasgow and Edinburgh on Saturday evening.

"Our focus remains on keeping communities safe...

"The comments that have featured on social media and the internet have caused a great deal of anxiety to communities.

"It must be stressed that any offensive or threatening behaviour whether in public or online will be investigated and appropriate action taken.

"Police Scotland will continue to monitor social media and investigate any criminality that is identified.

"Our message is clear, sex without consent is rape.

"We will continue to robustly investigate all reports of sexual crime, working with partners to support victims and bring perpetrators to justice."

The force is yet to confirm if any additional officers will be present at George Square on Saturday.
