Morrissey has been named the winner of 2015's Bad Sex in Fiction award.

The former Smiths frontman was nominated for the award for his debut novel List of the Lost, released by Penguin Classics.

Other books in the running for this year's prize, which is given by Literary Review, included Before, During, After by Richard Bausch, Book of Numbers by Joshua Cohen, Against Nature by Tomas Espedal, Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff, The Making of Zombie Wars by Aleksandar Hemon, Fear of Dying by Erica Jong and The Martini Shot by George Pelecanos.

The winner was announced by Nancy Dell'Olio at a ceremony at the In & Out club in London last night.

Morrissey's debut novel was described as 'stale excrement' and an 'unpolished turd of a book' in a review by The Guardian in September.

The passage that won him the Bad Sex award featured two of the novel's main characters Eliza and Erza.

The singer did not attend the ceremony.
