Police Scotland are appealing for witnesses after a speed camera was set on fire on the A1.

A passing motorist reported the speed camera alight at the Bankton Junction near to Tranent, East Lothian, at around 1.30 am on Saturday.

In a new attack in the south east of Scotland, police and the Scottish Fire Service attended and found the camera on fire.

Officers are now appealing for anyone with information that can assist them with their inquiries into the "suspicious fire" to get in touch.

The Herald:

Sergeant John Forrester of Haddington police station said: “The camera was completely destroyed and the cost of replacing it is substantial.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and who can assist us in tracing those responsible.”
