A NEW born child has been named after his uncle who died following a Hogmanay party four years ago.

The boy was delivered on what would have been Aidan McPherson's 24th birthday. The 19-year-old man was found dead by the River Lossie near Lossiemouth, Moray, after he disappeared following a party in 2011.

The dead man's mother Aileen McPherson suffered further tragedy when her daughter Paula died from cancer aged 33 earlier this year.

Mrs McPherson, 64, of Elgin, said the arrival of her grandson Aidan McPherson was "meant to be".

She said: "It was an emotional day for the family. A lot of us were in tears.

"I was sad because it was Aidan's birthday but on the opposite end of the scale it was a joy to see the baby appear on that day.

"It was just meant to be."

Mrs McPherson's son, Gary, 28, and his partner, Chelsea Stewardson, 23, felt it was only right their son was named after his uncle.

Chelsea said: "It felt like fate, he just had to be named Aidan."

Baby Aidan was born at approximately 5.40am on Friday morning and Aileen was shocked when she got the text from her son saying she was a grandmother again.

"We're a big, close family and we have all been round to see Aidan.

"Having him born that day was really special to us."

She added: "As he grows up everybody will tell him about his Uncle Aidan and Auntie Paula."

Mr McPherson's body was found three months after he disappeared by a dog walker near Lossiemouth.

The huge search involved police divers.

Before his body was found Mrs McPherson made an appeal for information about his whereabouts. She said she was "living on little bits of news"
