An Inverness school was evacuated this morning after a bomb scare.

Police Scotland said it received a report of a bomb threat directed at Charleston Academy in the Kinmylies areas of Inverness at 9.15am today.

Local officers investigated the reports until it was confirmed that the call was not genuine and was assessed as a hoax.

Staff and pupils were allowed back into the school at 10.19am.

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing. Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "It should be noted that hoax calls which involve the emergency services are taken extremely seriously and if found to be malicious may result in a person or persons being reported to the Procurator Fiscal."
