A MAN is in a serious condition in hospital after being hit by a bin lorry.

Police are investigating the collision which happened in Edinburgh at 6am this morning.

They say the man was hit by a private refuse vehicle on Gorgie Park Road in the city.

He was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary to be treated for his injuries and remains in a serious condition.

Gorgie Park Road is currently closed.

Officers are urging anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward.

Sergeant Ross Drummond said: "This collision has left a man with serious injuries and we are keen to speak to anyone with information that can help us with our inquiries.

"Anyone with information can contact us by calling 101."
