Thousands of commuters faced major delays today after rail staff failed to finish engineering works on time.

ScotRail bosses said services between Glasgow and Edinburgh were among those affected.

Trains in Lanarkshire and Dunbartonshire were also hit by delays after work between Hyndland and Partick was not finished on time.

The Herald:

No trains were able to stop at a host of stations in Glasgow, including Hyndland, Partick, Charing Cross and Duke Street.

In a statement, ScotRail said: "Apologies to all affected by disruption due to overrunning engineering works."

The Herald:

A temporary timetable is in place and disruption is expected to last until at least 4pm today.

There were also problems on the east coast as frustrated commuters took to Twitter to register their complaints with rail operators.
