Two BBC productions are currently being shot in Edinburgh.
An adaptation of Joseph Conrad’s The Secret Agent and One Of Us, a contemporary crime drama by Harry and Jack Williams, the writers behind successful drama, The Missing, have both been shooting in the capital.
The two BBC productions, complete their filming schedule in Edinburgh this week, having logged more than 100 days of location shooting around the city during October and November.
The Secret Agent is a three part drama.
Toby Jones stars in Tony Marchant’s adaptation of the Conrad thriller, and is directed by Charles McDougall.
Jones plays Verloc, whose Soho shop hides his role as an agent of the Russian Embassy, spying on a group of London anarchists.
It has been a "bumper year" for filming in the capital, its film agency said.
Both production were aided by tax credits for film and TV production.
The UK Government also provides tax relief for video games and theatre productions.
A new tax relief for orchestras will be available from April 2016.
Rosie Ellison, Film Manager for Film Edinburgh, said: "2015 has so far been a bumper year for filming in the Edinburgh region, with location shoots and filming enquires up on the same period last year.
"It’s early days for the new high end TV tax relief, but the initial signs are extremely promising.
"Edinburgh is an incredibly film friendly city and Film Edinburgh works hard with our partners, City of Edinburgh Council and local film talent, to ensure filming is efficient and pain-free for production teams.
"The added incentive of the tax relief further strengthens our city’s location appeal to UK and international productions companies and I’m excited to see how this will further develop in 2016."
Film Edinburgh is the local Film Commission for Edinburgh, East Lothian and the Scottish Borders.
Last year, Film Edinburgh dealt with a total of 502 film and TV enquiries, resulting in 342 productions filming in the Edinburgh city region.
Productions included the third series of BBC3’s Pramface, BBC thrillers The Escape Artist, starring David Tennant and its murder mystery Shetland.
Factual drama, Castles in the Sky, starring Eddie Izzard about the Scottish originator of the radar, was also filmed in Edinburgh and East Lothian last year.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
