Members of the public have been warned not to approach a prisoner who has gone missing while on temporary release.

William Carlin, 52, failed to return to Castle Huntly prison, near Dundee, after a period of leave.

He was last seen near Kings Cross Hospital in Dundee at about 9am on Thursday.

Police Scotland have appealed for information to trace him but said he should not be approached.

Carlin, who has connections to the Ayrshire area, is described as 5ft 11in, slim, with short brown or grey hair and blue/grey eyes.
