Major train cancellations are set to affect thousands of U2 fans ahead of the Irish rockers' concerts at the Hydro in Glasgow.

Scotrail are carrying out significant engineering works throughout the weekend meaning many services will be changed from trains to back-up buses.

The SECC station, which is situated near the Hydro venue where the band are due to perform, is among the locations affected with the station set to close altogether on Saturday.

Fans attending Friday's performance will not be affected by the closure, but those attending Saturday's show have been advised to make alternative travel arrangements.

In a statement, Scotrail said: "Customers are reminded that major engineering improvements on Saturday 7 November and Sunday 8 November will impact Lanarkshire, Glasgow-Edinburgh via Bathgate, and Dunbartonshire trains.

"While replacement buses will be provided, journey times will be longer and customers should consider alternative travel arrangements.

"Anyone attending events on affected routes - such as U2 at The Hydro, or BBC Good Food and Soroptimists at the SECC in Glasgow - are reminded that it will be particularly busy on roads near Exhibition Centre station, which will not be served by trains.

"If possible, event-goers are strongly recommended to make alternative arrangements."

Passengers attending the concert should check www.scotrail.co.uk/service-alterations for further information on how the works will affect their journey.
