A BABY grand piano that once belonged to Barbra Streisand is expected to fetch up to £5,000 when it goes up for auction.

The art deco instrument, which was designed by Krakauer, will go under the hammer at Lyon & Turnbull as part of its decorative arts sale on November 11.

The piano, with a polished walnut veneer, was originally sold in New York in 1994 as part of The Barbra Streisand Collection sale, which included her cars, jewellery and evening gowns.

John Mackie, director of Lyon & Turnbull and Decorative Arts Specialist, said: “This stylish piano made by such a dependable name would be a collector’s item in its own right, however with this there is the added interest that it once belonged to the great Barbra Streisand."

Streisand, who can boast several Oscars, Grammy and Tony awards as well as Golden Globes, was at one time a major collector of the artworks from the art deco period.

Krakauer was an American manufacturer of handmade pianos. The firm was founded in 1869 in New York City by the Jewish immigrant Simon Krakauer, his son David and his brother Julius.
