Oil company Chevron North Sea has said that about 140 jobs are at risk as it looks to cut costs.

The job losses - covering staff and contractors - are from North Sea operations with most expected to be lost in Aberdeen, but positions  will also be lost in London, Houston, Norway and Denmark.

It said last month up to 10% of its workforce would be cut as it looked to control costs as oil prices plunged.

It stressed it was "committed to the UK North Sea".

A spokesperson said: "We anticipate there could be a reduction of approximately 140 positions."

The statement added: "The company is focused on safe and reliable operations."

In July, last year, Chevron said it planned to cut 225 jobs in Aberdeen.

The company said the decision followed a review of its North Sea business - and would give it more flexibility.

Chevron's joint venture operator Amoseas drilled the first North Sea well 165 miles offshore over 50 years ago.
