A two-year-old toddler who gained her 'angel wings' far too soon is at the centre of a campaign to get a plane named after her.

The mother of the tot Cheryl Murphy is asking for people to vote for a plane to be named after Edie as part of a competition the holiday firm Thomson are running.

Thomson want a name for their 787 dreamliner and so far Edie has received over 80,000 votes.

In the Facebook post her mother says: "Our beautiful little girl passed away so suddenly and far to soon, she got poorly very quickly and sadly gained her angel wings.

"Edie Rose was only 2.5 years old. Some of you who are friends of mine may have seen the hashtag ‪#‎FlyHighEdie‬ doing the rounds.

"We said goodbye to the beautiful Edie yesterday at her celebration of life whilst wearing converse and wearing flowery clothes - just as Edie would have wanted!

"Edie was treated by intensive care and we couldn't have asked for better care

"This morning we have found Thomson holidays are running a competition to help name one of their aeroplanes and we have thought this is a great way for Edie to continue flying high!

"All I ask is if you could help and vote for the name. Thank you #FlyHighEdie."

The Courier reported that the youngster from Kirkcaldy died last month after being rushed to hospital suffering convulsions and a high temperature.
