A ROBBER has been jailed for 32 months – after trying to cash in a winning Lottery scratch card he stole during a raid.

George Dunsmore, 44, was jailed after admitting to holding up the service station at Maddiston, Falkirk, on February 13 this year.

After pulling a knife on a worker, he tried to open a till before eventually escaping with cigarettes and scratch cards.

Police were alerted and serial numbers were passed on to Camelot. However, Dunsmore was caught when he turned up at another shop near his Maddiston home the following day and then tried to claim his £20 winnings from one of the cards.

Judge John Morris QC said the crime involved “total ineptitude” but that it must have still been a “terrifying experience” for the worker involved. He added the sentence at the High Court in Glasgow would have been four years, but for the guilty plea.
