A BRAZEN thug wielding a meat cleaver chased two young men down a busy Glasgow street.

The man approached the two victims as they waited for a bus in Victoria Road, Govanhill and threatened them with the weapon.

Police said the terrified pair fled but were chased by the suspect, who was brandishing the meat cleaver, along the street.

The suspect was last seen running towards Allison Street.

Detectives investigating the attack believe Victoria Road would have been busy when the attack took place at around 8.30pm on Sunday.

Witnesses have been urged to come forward.

The suspect is described as a while male, in his late 40s or early 50s, who spoke with a Glasgow accent.

He is around 5ft 7in tall, of stocky build and was dressed in dark clothing, including a hooded top and a dark snood.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "At around 8.30pm on Sunday October 25, the suspect approached two males within a bus stop, near to Royal Bank of Scotland, in Victoria Road, Govanhill.

"He made threats to them, producing what appeared to be a meat clever or something similar.

"The victims ran off, pursued by the suspect, who was last seen running on to Allison Street."

Meanwhile, detectives are continuing their hunt for a bag snatcher who targeted an 87-year-old woman in Govanhill.

She was mugged by a man who approached her in Hollybrook Street.

The elderly lady is understood to have been making her way to the shops when the suspect grabbed her handbag and made off with its contents.

The robbery took place at around 5.45pm on Monday October 26.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Police are continuing inquires after an 87-year-old woman was robbed of her handbag and its contents in Hollybrook Street, Govanhill, Glasgow, around 5.45pm on Monday."
