The isle of Mull has suffered its second road crash fatality this month with the death of a 29-year-old woman.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision, which happened on the A849, north of Craignure.

A Police Scotland spokesman said that they had received a report of a two vehicle collision around 8.15pm on Wednesday.

He added: "Emergency services attended and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene."

The police spokesman added: "A 26-year-old man has been arrested and is currently detained in police custody in connection with the incident.

"Enquiries are continuing and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."

An RNLI spokesman said that Oban lifeboat was tasked by Stornoway Coastguard at 2.10am to transfer Police Scotland officers from Oban to Craignure.

The dead woman has not yet been named by police.

On October 10, Andy Mort, 47, who had recently moved to Dervaig, Mull, died during the island's annual car rally, when the Impreza car he was competing in crashed.
