A MAN has died in hospital a day after being struck by a motorbike in Coatbridge.

The 45-year-old pedestrian had been crossing the road at Calder Street, close to School Street, when he was hit by a Triumph motorbike driven by a 25-year-old man at 8.45pm on Monday.

Both were taken to Monklands hospital by ambulance.

The motorbike driver was treated for minor injuries.

The pedestrian died today and police are investigating what happened.

Sergeant Alison McAuley, from the Motherwell Road Policing Unit, said: "This was a serious incident which has tragically resulted in the death of a man.

"Inquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances of the crash. We have conducted door to door enquiries and continue to analyse available CCTV.”

She thanked those who had got in touch with police and appealed for anyone with information to call 101.
