A CRUEL pet owner has been banned from keeping animals for life after her dog was left in "excruciating pain" for months.

Vets had no option but to put the female German Shepherd down due to the extent of its injuries.

Lesley Wynd, from Paisley, was handed the ban after pleading guilty to causing her dog Kizzie unnecessary suffering by failing to take it to the vet for treatment.

The 49-year-old woman was also given a £500 fine following the Scottish SPCA investigation and her subsequent appearance at Paisley Sheriff Court yesterday.

The dog was suffering from an extreme immune reaction in the skin, leaving it with painful skin lesions on and around its legs.

When Kizzie arrived at the charity's Glasgow rehoming centre, it had to be sedated for a vet to even examine it as it was in so much pain.

SSPCA Inspector Gillian Dick said: "The area was reddened, hot and pungent from infection and even under heavy sedation she was reacting to it being touched.

"This indicated how much pain this was causing her.

"Sadly Kizzie’s condition was so bad that she had to be put to sleep.

"We believe she suffered excruciating pain from this condition for at least three months.

"We are pleased Wynd has been dealt with by the courts and that this serious case of neglect has been rightly recognised with a lifetime ban."
