A WOMAN was sexually assaulted on a train which left from Aberdeen.

British Transport Police who are investigating are appealing for information over the attack which happened on the 16.39 Dyce to Edinburgh Waverley service on Thursday.

The 20-year-old woman was touched inappropriately by a man in his 50s. He’s also reported to have tried to kiss her.

The woman left the train at Haymarket station in Edinburgh, then reported the incident to rail staff and police.

The man is described as 5ft 10 in height with short grey hair, and was wearing a round-necked light blue t-shirt with a brown long-sleeved top underneath, and brown trousers. He also had a red tattoo on his right hand.

He spoke with a Tyneside accent – it’s believed he was travelling to Newcastle.

The British Transport Police are reviewing CCTV from the train and at stations to attempt to identify the man.

Detective Constable David McAlister, the BTP officer in charge of the enquiry, said: “I am asking anyone who has information which can help identify the man responsible to contact BTP as a matter of urgency.”
