A man has died in a collision involving a car and a lorry in Aberdeenshire.

The crash happened on the A947 Fyvie to Oldmeldrum road shortly before 3.30am on Monday at Backbog, south of St Katnerines.

The  46-year-old motorist is understood to have died at the scene. The 31-year-old lorry driver suffered minor injuries.

The A947 was closed south of St Katherines on Monday morning while officers carried out an investigation into the collision.

A Scottish Ambulance spokesman said: “We deployed an ambulance, a GP was sent for and the RAF were asked to attend.

“The RAF were stood down after it became apparent no patient would need transported to hospital.”
