A Palestinian was shot dead after he tried to stab an Israeli security guard at a border crossing yesterday, Israeli police said, as diplomatic efforts to try to end a surge in violence resumed in Jordan. The suspect approached the Jalameh crossing between the northern West Bank and Israel from the Palestinian side, an Israeli police spokeswoman said. The Palestinian Health Ministry said the Palestinian involved was 16 years old. In Amman, US Secretary of State John Kerry and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met and voiced hope they might find a way to ease the tensions but offered no details.
