Edinburgh City Council has plans to build more than 14,000 new homes in a decade at a cost of nearly £300 million.

The proposals are designed to tackle the city’s growing population and are to be considered by the council’s hard pressed finance and resources committee.

Schools, parks and transport links will bolster new communities, it is claimed.

Around half of the £296,443,000 cost will be clawed back from developers who benefit from building homes and infrastructure related to the expansion and further funding is to be decided.

New homes will be built at Cammo, Burdiehouse, Gilmerton, Maybury, Newcraighall, Moredunvale Road, Queensferry, West Newbridge, South Gyle Wynd, Corstorphine at Edinburgh Zoo and Shrub Place on Leith Walk.

There will be nine new primary schools and extensions and replacements of high schools, including an estimated £10m upgrade of Castlebrae Community High School in Craigmillar.

The Local Development Plan is due to be scrutinised by councillors on October 29.
