Four people have been taken to hospital after a prison van on its way to court overturned.

One prisoner and three security staff members were travelling in the vehicle when the incident happened at around 8.30am on the A952 at Cortes in Aberdeenshire.

There are not believed to be any serious injuries.

Willie Galloway, head of operations for G4S court escorting, said: "One of our escort vehicles travelling between Fraserburgh police custody unit and Aberdeen Sheriff Court was involved in an incident on the A952 this morning just after 8.30am.

"There were four people in the vehicle, including one prisoner and three G4S colleagues.

"We do not believe that anyone has sustained serious injuries but all four have been taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary as a precautionary measure."

The route was blocked in both directions but was later reopened.
