THE boss of Scotland's largest music festival has apologised to music fans for the traffic chaos that engulfed the end of the event last year and said that improvements will be made to ensure the problems are not repeated.
T in the Park Director Geoff Ellis said he was "genuinely sorry" for the delays which plagued transport around the festival site and pledged to drastically improve procedures when next year's event is staged.
Many revellers complained of waiting hours to access and exit car parks at around the festival, which was held at Strathallan Estate after moving from its old site at Balado, Perthshire.
Some festival goers were forced to sleep in their cars after the final concert came to a close as tailbacks showed no signs of easing, while others who relied on shuttle buses arriving at pick-up points gave up in disgust and walked out of the area after waiting for up to eight hours for the roads to clear.
Mr Ellis said that a thorough review of the issues surrounding the festival had taken place and that a new plan was being drawn up for next year.
He said: "This year’s event was the first at our new site and it brought us challenges that we know impacted upon the weekend for some of our loyal fans.
"Over the last few months, we’ve undertaken an intensive debrief of this year’s festival to fully understand your experience. We’ve analysed the TITP survey results and looked at the direct feedback received from many of our fans alongside comments from social media.
"We all love and care about T in the Park and we’re genuinely sorry that the first year at our new site didn’t go as well as we hoped for some of you."
Chief among the changes will be a new plan for the official shuttle buses, while entrances and exits from the car parks will also be improved.
Mr Ellis, Chief Executive of DF Concerts, said that additional transport consultants had been employed and that they would be working to ensure better access to the site was created.
He admitted that pick up and drop off points into the site had not worked, and that the volume of people using them was much higher than had been anticipated. These will now be separated completely from buses and coaches.
Improvements will also be made to the shuttle service from Gleneagles rail station, along with transport from Crieff, Muthill and Auchterarder.
More local people will be also employed among festival staff, who will be better briefed following complaints that many seemed out of their depth and ignorant of the lay out of local roads last year.
Mr Ellis played down fears that the festival would not go ahead next year, following the traffic issues and the controversy over a £150,000 grant from the Scottish Government to DF Concerts to help with the move from Balado, and confirmed it would take place on July 8-10 if the appropriate licences were in place.
The festival organiser said: "We are confident that T in the Park will work well at Strathallan Castle for many years to come but the lessons we’ve learned during this difficult transitional year alongside your valued and constructive feedback will make sure that we do much better in 2016.
"We’re committed to making sure your festival is the best it can be, we’ll continue to listen and act on your feedback and we’ll always strive to keep improving and developing T in the Park. "
