A WOMAN was trapped after a car flipped on its roof during a road crash.

The two car accident happened at Peel Park Place and Queensway, in East Kilbride shortly after 8am today.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene, where they found a woman trapped in a vehicle.

Fire crews also attended from East Kilbride fire station.

The woman was freed from the car and taken to Hairmyres hospital as aprecuation, although she did not sustain serious injuries. 

A fire service spokesman said: "Around 8:05am we received a report of a collision on Queensway that had left a car on its roof.

"Two appliances were immediately sent from East Kilbride Community Fire Station and firefighters arrived to find a woman was trapped inside the overturned vehicle.

"Ambulance personnel advised that she was not thought to be suffering from any injuries and our crews assisted her from the car.

"She was then taken by ambulance to Hairmyres Hospital for a precautionary check-up.

"Police officers worked to ensure the safety of everyone involved as well as other road users."

The A726 at Queensway is partially blocked and traffic is slow moving in the area.
