Police in Edinburgh are appealing for witnesses after a 51-year-old man was assaulted in the city centre.

The victim suffered serious facial injuries following the incident at around 3am on Sunday outside the Jamhouse in Queen Street.

He was waiting outside the premises for his partner when he was subject to an unprovoked assault by another male who had been inside.

The victim was headbutted and sustained an injury to his face before the suspect left the area.

Officers are now urging anyone who can assist with their inquiries to come forward.

The suspect is described as white, in his 50s, around 6ft tall with a stocky build and shaved head.

He was wearing a dark striped shirt and dark trousers.
