A COUPLE from Wishaw are celebrating after scooping more than £60,000 on the national lottery,
Betty and Tony Bradley matched five main numbers and the bonus ball to win a £60,852 windfall in the Lotto draw on October 3.
Mrs Bradley, 56, a physiotherapist technician at Wishaw General Hospital, first thought at first she had only matched four numbers, which would have meant a prize of £70.
But as she checked she realised she had also correctly predicted the bonus ball, vastly increasing the prize.
She said: “I play the Lottery every week but I wait until Sunday morning to check the Saturday draw. I got my iPad out and my magnifying glass as the ticket was creased and I was struggling to see the numbers clearly.
“I couldn’t believe my eyes when I checked along the row of winning numbers. The small prize I thought I’d won turned into over £60,000."
The couple said they plan to take a holiday with their winnings, and are also looking forward to an extra-special Christmas with their family.
Mrs Bradley added: “The win will make such a difference to us. Family is our priority so we will be spoiling the girls and our five grandchildren will have a great Christmas this year. I’ll also be treating my workmates at our Christmas night out and I’ll be splashing out on a new wardrobe.
“We will put a bit away for our pensions then we’ll enjoy the rest, after all you can’t take it with you”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
