Patients at a Glasgow hospital were evacuated on Saturday when two wards were flooded.

The deluge at Gartnavel General Hospital in the city’s west end was caused by leaking pipes.

The NHS said no operations were postponed and repairs are now being carried out at the multi-storey building which opened in 1972.

A spokeswoman for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said: “We can confirm that a flood has occurred on Saturday at Gartnavel General Hospital due to leaking pipes.

“Two inpatient wards at the hospital have been slightly damaged as a result of the flooding but we very quickly moved the patients to other ward areas. This was mainly to minimise any disruption to staff and patients while estates staff rectify the issues.

“No procedures have been postponed as a result of the flooding and staff are working round the clock to repair the leaks and any damage caused by the flooding.”
