A train has derailed causing "severe disruption" to a number of rail services.

The freight train came off the track between Broughty Ferry and Dundee in the early hours causing services from Glasgow and Edinburgh to Aberdeen to terminate at Dundee.

Trains from Aberdeen to Edinburgh and Glasgow will terminate at Carnoustie.

Limited replacement bus services have been provided between Dundee and Aberdeen and Aberdeen to Carnoustie, with customers being encouraged to make alternative travel plans. Disruptions are expected to last until Monday evening.

A spokesperson for Scotrail said: "We apologise to customers affected by this disruption and are working hard to reopen the line and resume normal service. Passengers are advised to check www.scotrail.co.uk for updates."
