A body found in a fire at a holiday resort is believed to be that of a missing man.

The blaze broke out in a lodge within the Piperdam Resort, near Dundee, early on Thursday and is being treated as unexplained.

Formal identification of the body is to take place but police said the family of Jamie McLennan, 26, who was reported missing in the Dundee area since Thursday morning, have been informed.

Mr McLennan was last seen by friends at around 3.30am on Thursday in the West Port area of Dundee.

Police believe the 26-year-old was visiting two guests staying in the lodge but they were not there when the fire broke out.

No other lodges or buildings at the resort were affected by the fire.

A police spokesman said: "It is understood that Mr McLennan had been visiting two registered guests staying at the resort. The two guests were not in the lodge when the fire broke out.

"The fire, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday, is being treated as unexplained and a joint investigation with Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is ongoing into the circumstances of the fire."
