Lulu, Sharleen Spiteri, Alex McLeish and Carol Smillie helped to raise £85,000 for an appeal to build a new hospice.

Mary Portas, Stephen Hendry and Amanda Wakeley were also among the guests at the event in London, which was hosted by comedian Andy Cameron.

It was held at the Watches of Switzerland Showroom as a fundraiser for the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow, which is building a new premises in Bellahouston Park on the south side of the city.

Hospice Chief Executive, Rhona Baillie said: “Our London Committee of top Scots have really pulled out the stops to organise a cracking fundraiser and Glasgow comedian Andy Cameron pushed the celebrity crowd to give generously raising £85,000 on the night.

“Every penny raised will go to the building of our new Hospice in Bellahouston Park.”

A silent auction included Gucci and Rolex watches and an Irn Bru mountain bike. A donation by contemporary artist Gerard Burns for a portrait commission raised the highest bid of the night with £12,000 when it was bought by the husband of fashion editor Kelly Cooper Barr.

The new Glasgow hospice aims to provide a state-of-the-art home for patients at the end of the life and their friends and relatives.

The Brick by Brick Appeal has a £21 million target, with £15m already raised.
