A SCOTTISH League Cup match between Greenock Morton and Motherwell was halted for over five minutes after police were called in to deal with clashes in a stand.

Extra time was held up for over five minutes at Cappielow with sister paper the Greenock Telegraph reporting that Motherwell fans were clashing with stewards and police.

Morton tweeted: "Ref has stopped the game as police charge to the Motherwell supporters."

Two minutes later while posting a picture of police officers standing in front of a group of fans, Morton tweeted: "Not sure what is going on but game still delayed."

The Scottish Championship club sealed a 3-2 victory over their Scottish Premiership opponents at the end of extra time with the help of two goals from Alex Samuel.
