The family of a missing Australian tourist have thanked local people for their help in the huge search after police confirmed a body found on far north-west coast of Scotland belongs to her.

Lynne Radke's body was found near Duncansby Head, Caithness, on Friday after she failed to return to a guest house in John O'Groats.

Following tests, Police Scotland said the body is that of Ms Radke, 46, from Brisbane.

Following Lynne's disappearance an extensive investigation and search operation was launched, utilising local officers from across the Highlands and Islands.

Specialist resources including the dog unit in addition to support from the Coastguard and the RNLI lifeboats was also ploughed into the search.

Ms Radke had been reported missing on 16 September following concern from staff at the property where she was staying after she failed to return, having last been seen on September 14

Appeals for information and assistance met with sightings of Lynne from afar afield as Dingwall to Orkney. Each of the leads was followed up by local officers.

In a statement issued via Police Scotland's Highland and Islands Division Facebook page the family said: “It is with great regret and sadness to confirm that Lynne Radke, our daughter, sister and auntie's body was found off the coast of northern Scotland.

“As a family we find comfort in her peace. We wish to thank you all for your thoughts at this difficult time.

“We are truly grateful to the officers at Wick Police Station that have handled this difficult situation with professionalism and genuine care. We also find comfort in the assistance of the local community who have helped us in our search.

“We maintained hope for a better outcome.

“Arrangements will be announced over the coming weeks.”

Police said Ms Radke's death is not being treated as suspicious at this time.

A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
