A MANHUNT is underway in Glasgow city centre after a man was stabbed twice in a busy street.

The victim, who is believed to be in his 40s, was set upon by a hooded thug at around 3pm today outside Boots in Sauchiehall Street.

Police raced to the scene after an alarm was raised and a major search of the city centre was underway.

The Evening Times understands the attacker ran through the chemist, after the stabbing, and was last seen in Renfrew Street.

The suspect is described as 5ft 6in tall, tanned complexion, of skinny build and with dark hair.

He was wearing a black hoody, with an orange lining and red tassels, with blue jeans and trainers.

A massive CCTV trawl is underway as police work to identify and arrest the knife attacker.

Police descended on the scene and a cordon was put in place as investigation work was carried out.

Ambulance crews were also at the scene and the victim  was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

A police spokeswoman said: "About 3pm police received a report of a man being injured outside Boots on Sauchiehall Street.

"Officers are at the scene and enquiries are continuing. "
