A man who raped a sleeping woman has been jailed for three and a half years.

Craig Maddock, 28, from Ayrshire, admitted committing the offence at a house in Rosyth, fife, in June 2014.

The High Court in Glasgow heard that Maddock’s 24-year-old victim confronted him days after the rape and recorded his confession on her mobile phone.

When he was questioned by police Maddock initially denied the offence.

Advocate depute Peter Ferguson QC, prosecuting, said: “He repeatedly denied raping the woman, but accepted that it was he who was talking on the voice recording and that he was admitting the rape.”

The court was told that Maddock had learning difficulties. Judge Lord Burns placed Maddock on the sex offenders’ register.
