JEREMY Corbyn has revealed the first appointments to his shadow cabinet.

The new Labour leader revealed the names late on Sunday night, confirming his leadership rival Andy Burnham as the new shadow home secretary.

In a surprise move, Mr Corbyn's campaign agent John McDonnell was appointed shadow chancellor, while Lord Falconer of Thoroton was named as shadow lord chancellor and shadow secretary of state for justice.

Mr Burnham’s old job as shadow health secretary goes to Heidi Alexander, while Hilary Benn remains as shadow foreign secretary.

Seema Malhotra was named shadow chief secretary to the Treasury and Angela Eagle was confirmed as shadow business secretary.
