A man who failed to return to prison more than three weeks ago is now back in jail.

Jared Kay, from Linlithgow, West Lothian, was due to return to HMP Edinburgh on August 18.

Police Scotland yesterday launched an appeal for information to trace him.

The force today said the 25-year-old has returned to prison.

They would not comment on whether he returned of his own accord or was found.

A spokesman said: "Police Scotland can confirm that Jared Kay, who failed to appear at HMP Edinburgh on Tuesday August 18, has now returned to the prison estate.

"Officers would like to thank those members of the public who participated in the search."
