FIFE COUNCIL has fired a number of staff members for breaching confidentiality rules surrounding the case of Mikaeel Kular.

At least nine workers are said to have been dismissed following an internal investigation by the local authority.

It is alleged the staff accessed sensitive documents relating to the death of three-year-old Mikaeel, despite not having clearance to do so.

Youngster Mikaeel was murdered by his mother at their home in Edinburgh in January 2014 with his body later found in Kirkcaldy.

When contacted regarding any disciplinary action, the council's executive director for education and children's services refused to confirm or deny any dismissals.

He said: "We have a clear internal process for dealing with discipline issues and we don't comment publicly on the individual circumstances of staff."

Meanwhile, a separate multi-agency review into the youngster's death is due to be published in the next few weeks.

The report, being compiled by chief officials at both Fife and Edinburgh council's, will focus on whether the youngster's murder could have been avoided.

Little Mikaeel's body was found in woodland two days after he was reported missing from his home in Edinburgh by his mother Rosdeep Adekoya.

The youngster had more than 40 separate injuries to his body, including bruises to his back, chin and cheek, trauma to the brain, haemorrhage in the spinal cord and injuries to his arms.

Adekoya pleaded guilty to beating the three-year-old to death after she lost her temper when he became sick after eating in a restaurant.

She initially told the police she had ran away and a two-day search was carried out across northern Edinburgh.

The youngster was found, concealed in a suitcase near to a house in Kirkcaldy.
