COMMONWEALTH Games organisers will be wishing one sport was on the schedules after the success of a team from Glasgow.

Glasgow Roller Derby have just produced a stunning performance from their all-female A team in the US.

The side, known as the "Irn Bruisers", beat some of America's best in the country that produced the sport.

At a tournament in Fort Wayne, Indiana, they scored wins against Fort Wayne Derby Girls, Big Easy Rollergirls and Connecticut - lifting the squad's world ranking from 107 to 61.

The hugely popular contact sport is already rumoured to be under consideration for the 2020 Olympics. It involves five members of the team roller-skating in the same direction around a track. Plays consist of a series of short match-ups, known as "jams", where both teams designate one member - the "jammer" - to score points by lapping members of the opposing team.

Team captain Heather Allison, AKA "Rogue Runner", said: "Words can't really express the mixture of pride, happiness and joy we're all feeling."
