WORK by the artist often referred to as the fifth Scottish Colourist is to go on sale next week.

A private collection of works by John Maclauchlan Milne RSA (1886-1957) is included in more than 50 antique and fine art lots expected to fetch upwards of £500,000 when they goes under the hammer at Lindsay Burns & Company in Perth on August 14.

Experts have said his French work makes the clear link with Peploe, Hunter and Cadell, perhaps more so than Fergusson, the fourth Colourist.

Auctioneeer Nick Burns said the collection included six examples of Milne's work: from the stylish, light and fresh view of Port of St Tropez, (valued at between £10,000-£15,000) to the bold Still Life of Pink Roses (£20,000-£30,000); through to some delightful views in Arran.

"The works were all purchased in the early part of the 20th century by the current vendor's parents and are fresh to the market. They are in untouched original condition and in their period frames."

If they realise the top estimate the six works could fetch around £100,000.
