THE oldest son of former Rangers star Claudio Reyna has died.

He was 13.

Reports in the US say Jack Reyna, the retired footballer's son, had brain cancer.

Tributes poured in as news of the death surfaced last night.

Rangers manger Ally McCoist said: "We have just heard the sad news.... On behalf of everyone at Rangers I would like to offer my sincere condolences to Claudio and his family at this difficulty time.

"Losing a child at just 13 is a tragedy and puts football into perspective."

Rangers Supporters Assembly said: "Rest in Peace - Jack Reyna, the son of former Rangers player and US soccer captain Claudio Reyna. Lost an ongoing battle with cancer."

Claudio, the US Youth Soccer technical director, who now lives with his wife Danielle in Bedford, New York, skipped an induction into the Hall of Fame prior to a US v Brazil match on May 31 to be with his son and family. Claudio, who was due to celebrate his 39th birthday today, played 64 times for Rangers between 1999 and 2001, and went on to play 112 games for the US national team.

In 2008 he announced he was retiring midway through a season with MLS's New York Red Bulls. Known as Captain America, he spent 13 years in Europe at clubs in Germany, Scotland and England before joining New York in 2007 as its first Designated Player.
